LEAWOOD, Kan . - Michael Maher of Realty Executives of Kansas City in Leawood has been selected as a Director of the Kansas Association of Realtors (KAR) for 2009.

KAR is a professional trade association for Kansas real estate professionals and is an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. With more than 10,000 members, KAR is one of the largest organizations in Kansas. The group, formed in 1920, strives to be a business resource center to its members, providing educational programs to build relevant skills and expertise in the real estate industry. KAR also provides members with discounted rates for insurance. It is most well-known for providing classes needed for new agents to get their real estate license, or for current agents to renew their real estate license.

Maher has been active in the organization for many years and will serve on the board of directors for a term of one year. He succeeds another local Realty Executives agent, Jeff Carson, who served as the KAR president in 2007.

“I look forward to serving as a director of the Kansas Association of Realtors because I take pride in working as a leader in my industry particularly helping those new to the industry succeed,” Maher said. “As an association, it is our mission to empower others to exercise their potential as entrepreneurs to become industry leaders.”

The Kansas Association of Realtors provides training and networking opportunities to real estate professionals within Kansas. The not-for-profit organization is also involved in many charitable concerns, including contributing to a Kansas Disaster Relief Fund to help the town of Greensburg, Kan., which was mostly destroyed by a devastating F5 tornado in 2007.
